Why God Will Never Get Tenure at Any University

  1. Only published one book.
  2. It was in Hebrew.
  3. It had no references.
  4. He did not publish it in referenced journals.
  5. Some doubt He even wrote it Himself.
  6. He is not known for his cooperative work.
  7. Sure. He created the world, but what has He done lately?
  8. He did not get permission from any review board to work on human subjects.
  9. When one of His experiments went awry, He tried to cover it up by drowning all the subjects.
  10. When sample subjects do not behave as predicted, He deletes the whole sample.
  11. He rarely comes to class. He just tells His students to read the Book.
  12. It is rumored that He sometimes lets His Son teach the class.
  13. Although He only has 10 requirements, His students often fail His tests.
  14. He expelled His first two students for learning.
  15. His office hours were infrequent and usually held on a mountain top.

Worship By The Lake - The Joy Of St. Andrews

by Reverend Lance Robbins
Rector, The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd

Dear Friends;

Several years ago an ad ran prior to the upcoming baseball season. The slogan was "the joys of summer". It was an obvious takeoff for the well-known phrase aptly descriptive of our national pastime, "the boys of summer".

What a wonderful thought, "the joys of summer". Along with perhaps baseball, what are some of your joys of summer? A real highlight and joy for me since moving to Webster many years ago, has been the chapel of St. Andrew's-by-the-Lake. If you haven't gone and experienced the joy of worshipping in this exquisite Chapel, I hope you'll come and visit on a Sunday. St. Andrew's is located at 1206 Lake Road in Webster, just west of where Rte 250 meets Lake Road, on the south shore of Lake Ontario. It's open only during the months of July and August and the services are held at 11 AM. Everyone is welcome, no matter what your background or denomination. It's a powerful testament and symbol of God's presence among us. The rich history and warmth provide an idyllic setting for worship on a quiet late Sunday morning.

It is in this tree-lined setting where I have encountered our loving and living God in a particular and marvelous fashion. God's mighty acts are remembered and represented there. The Spirit of Christ is present - in the Word proclaimed, in the Holy Communion, and in the faces of those around us we find the faces of Christ.

A special and sacred placed to be still, to pray, to give thanks, to enjoy the beauty and joy of a summer Sunday. Many come to St. Andrew's to be healed, others come to give thanks. Some come to be forgiven, still others come to find meaning and renewal. All come to be loved. In thought, word and deed, we receive help as we try to love those who cross our path.

Quaint, beautiful - peaceful words often used of this summer Chapel. For me a place to discover grace, strength and peace in no small measure.

The "joys of summer" - if you are able to come out and visit this year, my guess is that you'll find another joy this summer. "Christ's joy may be in you, and that you may be joy full". (John 15:11)

Faithfully,
The Rev. Lance D. Robbins
