The Rev:  A View from Upstairs

SAM's Lambs - Good Shepherd Ministry for Singles

Why God Will Never Get Tenure at Any University

  1. Only published one book.
  2. It was in Hebrew.
  3. It had no references.
  4. He did not publish it in referenced journals.
  5. Some doubt He even wrote it Himself.
  6. He is not known for his cooperative work.
  7. Sure. He created the world, but what has He done lately?
  8. He did not get permission from any review board to work on human subjects.
  9. When one of His experiments went awry, He tried to cover it up by drowning all the subjects.
  10. When sample subjects do not behave as predicted, He deletes the whole sample.
  11. He rarely comes to class. He just tells His students to read the Book.
  12. It is rumored that He sometimes lets His Son teach the class.
  13. Although He only has 10 requirements, His students often fail His tests.
  14. He expelled His first two students for learning.
  15. His office hours were infrequent and usually held on a mountain top.

Singles in the Church: Is There Seating For One In The Church?

From The Rev:  Summer Thoughts

by Reverend Lance Robbins
Rector, The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd

As we approach the warmth of summer, I do hope you will make some time for relaxation and fun. An important part of the spiritual life is taking time for ourselves. In quiet moments, we are able to reflect on life, seek inner healing, and nurture our own souls, so often neglected in the rush and business of daily life.

Recently a former student of mine sent me a collection of thoughts and quotes that have become very meaningful to her. I present them to you as a summer gift for those moments when you take the opportunity just to be with yourself.

"The human spirit is such that is will defy every effort to lump it into categories, whether it is done for convenience or by design. It is our very uniqueness, our individual identity, that transcends our short existence here and therefore must also be preserved."           - Leo Buscaglia

"Ony when we realize our value as human beings can we begin to develop a sense of dignity and respect for our place in life".          - Leo Buscaglia

"I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and to see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived".          - Henry David Thoreau

"One never notices what is done, one only notices what needs to be done".            - Maire Curie

"Forgiveness is letting what was, be gone; what will be, come; what is now, be"           - David Augsburger

"Plenty of people miss their share of happiness, not because they never found it, but because they didn't stop to enjoy it"           - William Feather

"Don't be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again after moments or lifetimes is certain for those who are friends"
                  - Richard Bach

"Happiness is not having what you want, it's wanting what you have"            - Spencer Johnson

May your summer be filled with joy, warmth, and times of quiet.

Faithfully,
The Rev. Lance D. Robbins
