Update June 1,  2007

Greetings Lambs,

What You Missed:

Our Tuesday night Open Groups ended our 06-07 season on May 22nd on a humourous note with a DVD of Johnny Carson’s late night shows – a good way to spring into our Summer Social season.

Our Bible Study continues on the 2nd and 4th Sat mornings, with Father Lance providing enlightenment of Moses, from the Bible for Dummies. In summer – June thru August we will meet at North Ponds Park for a spirituality walk around the ponds, followed by our Bible Study in a shelter.

Our Trip to Ottawa Tulip Festival on May 18 – 20, was fabulous! We will have some pictures on our site soon. The weather was perfect, and we toured National landmarks like the National Art Gallery, the Note-Dame Basilica (next to the US Embassy), Parliament Buildings, and the By Ward Market where hundreds of vendors displayed hand made crafts, and in the evening crowds packed the bistros and outdoor cafes. Of course we toured the miles of Tulip Beds, and viewed the Boat Flotilla on Saturday evening on Dow’s Lake. Saturday evening had a special event – the Ottawa Senators beat the Buffalo Sabres, and we were treated(?) to a prolonged celebration with cavalcades of honking cars with flags flying, and rowdy shouting, even into the middle of the night. Those Canucks know how to celebrate!

Tuesday night Discussions – are ended and will resume in September. Our Open House event in September is on Saturday, Sept 8, where we will have information on our new programs, plus entertainment featuring:
"Reverend Mother" – Phyllis Contestable, of Nunsense fame. We are working on having separate programs for Never Marrieds, Sep/Div, and widows(ers) and will have more info on that next month.

BIG NEWS – Did you see the article in the Democrat and Chronicle that included information on our SAM’s Lambs Singles Ministry?
A reporter wrote an article on what suburban churches are doing for their community and she came to Good Shepherd to do an interview to include what GS is doing in our Singles Ministry for singles in the community, who represent about 50% of the total population, and few of whom attend church. Reaching singles in our community is part of our Christian mission of reaching "unchurched" people to share our Christian fellowship with everyone.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: As a regular at church, you’ve probably seen that announcement before. We are growing – slowly but surely, and after the D&C news we may grow even more. In Sept we’ll need more volunteers for our discussions or planning committees, which are also another way to build friendships. You don’t have to be a professional, just friendly and willing. Call our VM and leave your name and # for details.

SOCIAL CALENDAR: (For details/carpool, leave your name & phone # on VM )

Our June calendar is now available, and over the summer we will have many possibilities for fun and fellowship, like picnics, day trips, card parties, and free band concerts on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.   To join us or carpool to a location, leave your name and phone # on our voice mail.

COMING IN SEPTEMBER:

An Episcopal singles conference is held over Labor Day at Kanuga Conference center in Hendersonville NC.  Father Lance Robbins and Betty Van Volkenburg will be attending and you are welcome to join them, for a most enjoyable weekend of workshops and fellowship with a great group of single priests and lay people.
