Meditation for our GS Lenten Meditation Book - 2007 PSALM 71 When I looked at the 4 scripture choices I had for today, I found that two of them were full of suffering and judgment. But as I am not into "Woe is me messages" I was glad I had 2 other choices that were inspiring and uplifting - Psalm 71, and John 5:19-29. I like Psalm 71 because the theme throughout is very comforting right from the first Verse - "In you Lord, I have found refuge; let me never be put to shame." to the last "All day long my tongue will tell of your vindicating power, for those who seek my hurt are shamed and disgraced" But I like John even better as it is another record of Jesus' focus on what's really important to us. In Verse 17 He responds to the Jews who are criticizing him for healing a man on the Sabbath "My Father continues to work, and I must work too." Then from 19 - 29, he goes on to assert his divinity, that he does nothing by himself and God works through Him, showing him all that he himself is doing and will show him even greater deeds While obeying the law is important, healing the sick and doing other wonderful works is far more important than just being a law abiding citizen, as he said in another scripture - it is not what goes into our mouths that is bad, but what comes out of it. As we go through this Lenten season to Easter, let us lean on God to get us through our trials just as Jesus suffered through his, but be joyful too as we know his resurrection will continue to bring us "even greater deeds". Rejoice and move forward - God's got your back! May your life be filled with newness and abundance this Easter as we celebrate his resurrection, just like the re-birth of the trees, plants and flowers do. Thanks be to GOD.
